Press Release

Date: Aug. 20, 2014
Location: Atlanta, GA

Gov. Nathan Deal and his team continue to scramble for excuses for Georgia's devastating unemployment rate, ranking nearly highest in the country. Their excuses don't hold up.

"With more than 370,000 Georgians out of work, Gov. Deal is making excuses," said Sen. Jason Carter. "Gov. Deal is showing once again that he just doesn't get it. Georgia families are facing declining wages and a terrible jobs market, and Gov. Deal is patting himself on the back.

"All of the evidence shows that Georgia has not fully recovered from the Recession and that we're falling behind other states, but Gov. Deal wants to declare victory. That's why we need new leadership and a new vision for our state."

Georgia now ranks as the 2nd worst state for unemployment. Georgia has added 26,052 unemployed people since January 2014. That's the highest number of new unemployed workers in the country. [Bureau of Labor Statistics, accessed 8/20/14]

Gov. Deal and his team have a lot of excuses for his declining economy.
